Experience the vibrant, student friendly city of Leeds and explore the rich history, culture and natural beauty of the area.

The summer school combines world-class tuition with academic field trips. Leeds International Summer School also includes social activities and cultural excursions.

Our next summer school will run 4 July to 1 August 2020.

If you are unable to attend for the full summer school you have the opportunity to join the wider group for two weeks of the programme:

Block one will run 4 - 18 July 2020 or block two will run 19 July - 1 August 2020.

What’s included

Academic modules

You will choose one or two modules from a diverse range of subject areas, and earn up to 20 University of Leeds credits (equivalent to six US credits or 10 ECTS).

Field trips

Through experiential learning and field trips, you will spend lots of time outside of the classroom. You will enjoy hands-on learning that will give you insights into British culture, history and society. Each module includes at least one field trip to support what you have learned in the classroom. Destinations include Castle Howard in York, the BBC at MediaCity UK, the Brontë Parsonage in Haworth and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool.

Cultural excursions and social events

The summer school has a busy social programme to help you make the most of your time in Leeds as well as further afield. All of the activities listed below are included in the programme fee:

  • orientation activities and socials
  • one full-day excursion per week
  • a half-day excursion, for example to Harewood House
  • a farewell social

Accommodation

As a summer school student, you will usually live in University accommodation such as Charles Morris (Dobree and Whetton Houses) or Lyddon Hall. These halls of residence are conveniently located on the University campus. You will have the privacy of your own room and share bathroom, kitchen and dining facilities with other summer school students.

Breakfast and lunch is included from Monday to Friday. The kitchens have cooking facilities, but if you don’t feel like cooking for yourself there are lots of catering outlets on campus. There are also cafes and restaurants near to the University and in the city centre, so there’s plenty of choice.

If you will attend the full 4-week programme or block one only, you are expected to arrive at your allocated accommodation on Saturday 4 July and classes start on Monday 6 July.

If you will attend block two only, you are expected to arrive at your allocated accommodation on Sunday 19 July and classes start on Monday 20 July.
